Welcome to the online consultation on Hate Crime in Northern Ireland.

We’re delighted at your interest in this inquiry into hate crime in Northern Ireland. It’s a vital part of the evidence gathering process so we really hope you’ll get fully involved. The online consultation is commissioned by the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee and will run for six weeks until 8 October 2004.

This is your space – the most important thing is to tell your story in your own words as your concerns may help shape future policy. To ensure that the Select Committee has a wide and diverse range of views to consider, please encourage others with an interest in this area to take part.

The discussion on the site will be monitored and moderated by the Hansard Society, an independent organisation which exists to promote effective parliamentary democracy.

The security of the consultation is of paramount importance to us and in that vein all messages submitted will be checked by moderators before being posted, so please bear with us. All your contributions will be summarised and reported back to the Committee when the consultation finishes – so your voice will be heard.

The Consultation is now closed. The following topics are available for you to view:

The law on hate crime
Incidence of racist, sectarian and homophobic crime
Responses to hate crime
